The omohyoid muscle is a thin, strap-like muscle located in the neck. It consists of two bellies: the superior belly and the inferior belly. The superior belly originates at the superior border of the scapula (shoulder blade), and the inferior belly originates at the inferior border of the scapula. In some cases, the omohyoid muscle may be surgically modified or altered to address certain medical conditions, such as problems with swallowing or speaking. It may also be used as a donor muscle for reconstructive surgery in the head and neck region.
